Helloooooo!! Yes we are still here! Time continues to fly by. John and I mulled the other day about how slow time seemed to creep during our wait for Renee, and now, two years have already flown by since bringing her home. Amazing!! It's so true...."Time Flys When You Are Having Fun"!!
Our days are full, work, preschool, gymnastics, drawning, playing with blocks, cleaning up the mess that "Hurricane Renee" can make in record time. The good news is that she's now old enough to help clean up.
It's Saturday morning and Renee is still asleep, although I expect her up any second, so I'm trying to type as quickly as I can.
We are going to a fall festival with our friends later today and to dinner later on. Renee turns three at the end of the month!!!

Take Pictures of Everything!

I had a very interesting conversation recently with a work colleague of mine. Her children are young adults and teenagers, having grown up using and being comfortable with computers and digital cameras. She recently visited Greece, and as we are friends on Facebook, I was able to view her vacation pictures as she posted them.

When she returned to work after her vacation, I told her that I felt as if I had traveled with her, having "experienced" Greece through her photos. What she told me, was very interesting, and I had an "aha" moment.

She said that her children, told her that they "take pictures of everything", from the most mundane, to the most exciting happenings in their lives. It makes sense as they grew up with digital photography and now cell phones with cameras. Not that I'd like to age myself here, but I grew up with the old cameras with "110" or "126" film that had to go to the "photomat" for developing. One hour photo was a big deal to me, as I could finally see my pictures fairly soon after taking them. I can't tell you how many old film cassettes I have that I never developed. Pictures lost forever, how sad.

I realized that either I don't know what to take pictures of, or after a holiday or interesting event, that I missed a golden opportunity to catch a moment in time for posterity. Add to that, that I frequently don't know what to "blog" about.
So what was my "aha"?? I am going to take pictures of everything! and blog about them as well!!

Oh Where To Begin!!

Now that my blog makeover is complete, (thank you Diane soooo much!!), it's time to start blogging seriously again. Renee has been a part of our family for over a year and a half now, and that time has been a blur of love, happiness and good times. We couldn't feel more blessed. I wake up every morning eager to see her smiling (well sometimes she's not smiling, lol!!) face.

My goal is to try to blog at least once a week if not more. I know, I know :) but actions speak louder than words, so stay tuned :)

So as the title of this blog post suggests, where do I begin to cover all that has happened over the last several months?? I'll try to incorporate bits and pieces into the blog posts to come, interspersed with the happenings of the day/week. I'll get us caught up!!.

Where we are now: Renee is two and a half, running, jumping, playing and loving the word "no" !! lol!!

I'm posting some pictures, it's amazing to see how much she's grown. I don't realize until I see pictures from several months ago!!

Renee just woke up and is asking for "juice", so have to go, but I'll be back!!

A New Blog Make Over!

It's time for a make over! Renee has been home with us for over 18 months and mommy is beginning to have a little more computer time! Yippee!! So in celebration, I will have Diana create a wonderful new blog theme for us. I'm trying to come up with a new title as well, any and all suggestions will be gratefully accepted!! Catching Up

I have been scolded my many, for not blogging for some time. Well the stars are aligned, Renee is napping and I have access to the lap top, so yippee, here we go!

First off, Happy Thankgiving to everyone!! We have so much to be thankful for. This past year has been glorious, busy, crazy, hectic, stressful...but glorious all the same. Waking up each morning to the smile that lights up my universe!!
Here are some recent pictures of our sweetie pie, and I will narrate below.

Here Renee is showing Daddy that she knows how to whistle. Forgive the quality of the picture, we have been using our IPhone to take most of the shots lately, and we both have yet learned to master IPhone photography. I had downloaded a really good app, but have a new phone and have yet to download it again.

In this shot, John, Renee and I were heading out east to look at the autumn leaves. Renee has that -are we there yet- look about her!!

Renee has learned that with a stethoscope you listen to the heart, and she will tell you so, as well as say boom, boom, boom!!

Renee celebrated her second birthday a month ago...time really does fly.
I will be back to work a year this January. Wow!!

It is amazing to see how much Renee has grown in the last year. Aside from her height and weight, she is the smartest little girl in the world, well...at least to her mommy and daddy!! lol!!!

She can recognize certain letters of the alphabet, and loves to draw and draw and draw and draw. She says circle, oval, duck, pop, more, eat.....and soooo much more. I was worried at one point that her language skills were lacking, but I can see now, that, that was unwarranted. Her language skills are right on target.

I have also noticed that Renee is not that thrilled with music, but her talents lie in the physical. Her balance and agility is amazing. We started her almost three months ago in gymnastics (15 months to 3 years class) and she amazes us every week. She can now jump on the trampoline as well as walk across a child sized balance beam. She learned how to jump, and jumps all day and on any surface she can find!! I will post a video of her jumping!!

As we are entering into the holiday season, once again, I would like to extend our families best wishes for much happiness, love and peace to you all.

I cannot believe that March was my last blog post. The old adage "time flies" certainly works here. The summer is already over half gone!! Renee is growing in leaps and bounds. So...I intend to catch up, but in the mean time I'll post some photos!

We Are Home Six Months

I hope those of you that are following our blog enjoy the pictures posted. Blogging has become more challenging as the laptop has had a few mishaps (John and Renee have spilled a little milk on the keyboard;) ), certain keys are not working, and I am not the most eloquent on a good day, try figuring out what to say with limited letters and punctuation, lol!!
We have been home with Renee for six months, she turned 17 months old on Thursday. The last six months have been the happiest of my life. Oh I know how corny it must sound, but this child does complete me. She is the light of our lives. She is happy, joyful, playful, inquisitive, funny... I could go on and on. She is an absolute joy.
Renee loves to draw, loves to play, has started to feed herself and can say Momma, Dadda, Boo(that means Blues Clues!), among other words. She calls her cousin Dana, Na Na!!
I have been home again with Renee for the last several weeks, as I needed surgery. I am recovering, with the love and support of my family, it gets frustrating though, when Renee wants Momma to pick her up and I cannot. As a good friend said, this surgery was a blessing in disguise, as I have had more time with Renee, watching her grow and learn. It has been a priceless time that, although I havent always felt the best, has been wonderful.
I will do my best to try to post more often, as I have said before, my laptop time has been severely curtailed, since becoming a mommy, but I wouldnt have it any other way. I love this girl with all my heart and soul.

Home 5 Months!

On Wednesday, Renee turned 16 months old! Yesterday, was 5 months that we are home. It's amazing how quickly the time has gone. Living with Renee day to day, we don't realize how much she's grown, but if you check out the photos I'm posting, you can see it! She has gained over 3 pounds since coming home! and grown about 3 inches.
She is the smartest little girl I have ever met (ok I'm mommy and maybe a bit prejudice??), but seriously, she loves to draw!! She wants pens, pencils and crayons! and loves to sit with a blank piece of paper and fill it with squiggly lines. I can't really say whether she will be a lefty or righty, as she uses both equally.
She has such a beautiful, loving, playful personality as well. She came to us with a beautiful, hopeful look on her face. And she's been smiling and laughing ever since.

Four Months Together: Look How She's Grown!

Renee was placed in our arms on September 14th, 2009, a day I'll never forget as long as I live. John and I nervously sat in a hotel conference room in Nanning, Guangxi province, China. We waited our turn till they called "Jin Mei Sang" (our daughter's given Chinese name). We nervously walked up to the "nannies" holding her and they placed her in my arms. I remember the happy, hopeful look on my baby's face. A look I see every day and hope will always see. John and I had to wear masks due to the H1N1 scare. Renee took one look at me and pulled my mask off, lol! And the rest is history... I love the hugs and wet kisses I get every day. I love this little girl with all my heart and soul! Look how she's grown!

Catching Up

It is truly amazing how time can just fly by. My last post was for Thanksgiving and I've had every good intention to continually blog throughout the holiday season and post pictures galore. Ah but all good intentions...
Wow, it's the new year! The holidays have come and gone! I'm back at work, ugh!
Why haven't I kept up with the blog?? Well, just a couple of things...wife, mother, sister, aunt...etc, etc...Life in general. Not to mention that my lap top time has been seriously curtailed since becoming a mommy :) I've grown so dependent on my IPhone!! Also, I've gotten increasedly used to posting on facebook, it's so easy to upload photos that I've taken. Lately, trying to sync my IPhone and upload all the photos I've taken has become very difficult.
Enough rambling!! Let's talk about my daughter! Well at the moment she's taking a nap (which is why mommy can type on the lap top in the first place ;-)).
She is absolutely the most wonderful baby that John and I have been blessed to have in our lives! Her smile and laughter (we just love how she cackles!!) just fills our home with joy. Many times I stop and try to remember what life was like before we brought her home, and I realized that it was somewhat boring if you want to know the truth. No boredom in my life!
I also wondered how I would get everything done once Renee came home, especially since I'll admit that I'm a major procrastinator. Well, all I can say to that, is when you know that there is a beautiful, loving baby depending upon you, procrastination goes right out of the window!
As I had said before I had some issues uploading photo's, but I'm going to post as many as I can. More of course to follow!! Look and see how Renee has grown!! I can almost put a barrett in her hair!!

For our Lord Jesus Christ, for our freedom to worship our Lord, for our warm home, for food to eat. We are thankful for our country and for all our American troops stationed all over the world, who on this day protect our freedoms, and who are missing their families. We appreciate all that they are doing for us.

for my daughter Renee Mei Sang, it may be the corniest thing to say... but it's true, she completes me. I am mommy today, and I absolutely love every minute of it.

Just When You Think You're On A Roll....

Well I really thought we were on a roll, Renee was just starting to get into a routine with eating and sleeping. Monday was our pediatrician visit, it was a long visit and they evaluated Renee from head to toe. We are so thankful, Renee is a very healthy little girl!!! Due to her time in the orphanage she has some slight catching up to do developmentally, but with the one on one attention she gets from John and I, she should catch up without an issue. While at the doctor's she had two blood tests and three injections. Ouch, my poor baby. Well, about 12 hours after the shots ( three o'clock in the morning) Renee woke up with a fever. Tuesday was a yucky day for Renee, she had fever on and off all day. I spoke with the doctor's office and they said it was probably the 3 injections. She wouldn't eat and hardly drank. I was sooo worried. By about 6p her fever broke and she started to play. She did sleep from about 8p to 5a, but awoke not only with fever again, but a rash.
I spoke with the doctor's office again and they said the rash may be viral to keep a close watch on her (as if I'd do anything else :)). She had a much better day today, she's almost her old self, except we're back to square one in regards to eating. She'll take bottles (but not like before), but no food (except for the occasional puff). It's frustrating, things were going so smoothly till we went to the doctor. I'm sure all will be fine and we'll get back on track again, but gosh, just when you think you're on a roll......

Have Car Seat Will Travel!!!

Until we installed the car seat into my car, it sat in the living room, so Renee crawled over and seemed interested. So we let her sit in it, and as you can see she was tickled!! We have been getting lots of smiles, belly laughs and giggles. I love to see her two bottom teeth when she smiles!!
We went out today and although Renee had a little issue with her car seat, I'm sure that will pass. It has too!!

Mmmmmm Good!!

While in China, Renee really wouldn't eat anything, but would only drink formula. I'd heard from friends who had experienced this before, not to worry and to try again once we got home. Well over the last 2 days, my sweetie pie has started eating oatmeal, rice cereal, and some baby foods like applesauce, banannas and green beans. She gets excited when she sees the bowls with her food and you can tell by her smile that she is enjoying it. It warms my heart after her "projectile spitting" of anything we placed in her mouth 2 weeks ago. Also, as of yesterday, she loves the "puffs" and will keep eating them as long as we provide them. She's unable to put anything in her mouth. When you give her a puff she just holds it and rolls it between her fingers.
I'm going to add another post with some extra smiling pictures. I know I have a lot of China pictures to catch up on, and I promise I will. They are loaded onto my netbook and I'm on my laptop at the moment.

Jet Lag What a Pain!

We've all been feeling the effects of jet lag, inability to sleep when it's dark outside and then an overwhelming feeling of exhaustion during the daylight hours. Renee has been sleeping in spurts of anywhere from 2-4 hours at a shot. I feel bad for my sweet girl, she's completely turned around. We took a walk outside before and she fell fast asleep in her stroller, and I still can't get her up no matter how much noise I make or how many time I kiss her tummy :) She opens her eyes, smiles, then rolls back over as if to say "Hey mom, leave me alone, I'm very comfortable here!" Well I can't fight city hall! Looks like I'll be up again tonight.
The above picture is of Renee in her car seat this morning when she accompanied John and I to the grocery store. We were hesitant to put her in her car seat after her first experience Friday evening. Remember how well I said she did on all of her plane rides? Well her melt down came when my sister and brother-in-law picked us up at Newark airport and we had to put her in a car seat for the first time. In China we held her during all bus trips so this was totally foreign to her. She screamed and cried, and to make matters worse traffic was at a standstill. We actually stopped in Brooklyn to help her to calm down and make a bottle. Needless to say, we were all extremely glad when we pulled into our drive way!!
Well, this morning we decided we would have to try the car seat again as it would be a necessity. We were amazed, she was absolutely fine!! Not a peep, only smiles. And on the trip home she fell asleep!!
So...this seems to be a familiar pose lately. Let's hope we all adjust as soon as possible. More photos to come!

We're Home!

Dosen't this picture just say it all!! Renee woke up early this morning and cuddled with John and I for about 2 hours before it was bottle time. That smile just warms my heart and soul. Isn't she just the most precious thing you've ever seen!!

Sorry for not blogging over the last week. The days sort of took on a momentum of there own and I really never did get used to the time change. I plan on catching up shortly and posting lot's of photos.

The trip home went smoothly and the long plane ride home went extremely well. The first 4 hours were the most challenging as Renee had a hard time falling asleep, but once she did she slept most of the flight. Wish John and I could say the same! Anyway, we are home safe and sound, enjoying all the little things we take for granted here in the USA like ice and soft mattresses. LOL!

Enjoying Guangzhou and More Photos!

We have settled in to Guanzhou and the White Swan Hotel. There are many families with children here, so we are not stared at as much. We really enjoyed the breakfast buffet this morning so much, that I'm looking forward to breakfast tomorrow!! LOL!

We are getting much better at reading Renee's "signals", we can tell when she's hungry or sleepy. When hungry she starts to get a bit irritable and then let's out high pitched "Hoos" when she her bottle comes into view. When sleepy she starts to suck either her left thumb or index finger, if you rock her on your chest, she'll usually be out in less than 5 minutes. She's taking formula well and so far the "poopsies" have been going well too!!

I can't tell you how much we love this little girl already!!

We're In Guangzhou!

I attempted to post several days ago but email wouldn't go through, will try again now. I'll try to send it will less photo''s, but make more blog entrys and we'll see if that works. We arrived in Guangzhou yesterday afternoon. Renee did great on the hour long flight from Guilin, here's hoping the other flights home on Friday go as smoothly. Home.... Friday.... wooo hooo, we are almost there. We have the medical exam and visa photo's today, Wednesday is consulate appt, Thursday we take the oath and get Renee's visa and then we are official and can go home early Friday morning. Renee is an absolute joy, she is the happiest baby, laughing, cooing and smiling almost all the time. She's a wiggly worm that doesn't like to sit still for too long, and especially not for a diaper change!! LOL!

She's drinking formula well, but doesn't like any of the solids yet and still gives us the rasberries!! Here are some photos, hope they go through, if not I'll keep trying. Miss everyone, can't wait to get home to the USA!

Sorry For Not Posting Sooner

Well it's about 9pm, we are now in Guilin in Giangxi province, a mere 6 hour drive in a bumpy van from Nanning. Renee did really well considering. She's what I call a "wiggly worm", she likes to be moving at all times. She's inquisitive, reaches for everything and loves anything that makes sounds. It's weird sometimes watching the other babies so quiet, an John and I on our toes with our "mover and shaker". Renee can roll over by her self, and tries to pull her self up to a standing position. She can't do it just yet, but when we help her, she can stand holding onto the bed for some time before her legs give way and I help her gently to the floor. Not that I want to be graphic or provide "TMI" but I'm happy to report that Renee has had 3 "poopies" so far, which is a good thing. She drinks her formula pretty well but it's hysterical when we try to feed her anything, she usually projectile spits at us and gives us the rasberries. We'll have to work on that.

Above all, we are so blessed at how she has taken to us already, she love sJohn and cuddles up to us both and gives us lots of smiles and belly laughs. I get tears in my eyes just thinking about it. We love her so much and can't believe in just a few days time how our life has changed forever. Well sorry for the ramble, here's some pictures you've probably been waiting for!

We got into Nanning late last night after a whirlwind day of sightseeing yesterday in Beijing. We have lot's of pictures to post. John made it up all the way to the top of the Great Wall, my hero!!

We meet our daughter in about 3 hours.

We are meeting our group now for lunch, will post again after we have Renee!!

We're Here!

We are in Beijing! The flight was long. John and I tried to sleep but only napped on and off. We had our own video units on the seat backs so we could watch movies, tv and play games galore. It really helped to pass the time. We arrived on time and made it through the temperature checks and immigration quickly and easily. After we met our guide Linda, we were able to do a drive by of the birds nest and swimming cube. We checked into our hotel quickly, then we were taken out for an authentic chinese food dinner, the peking duck was fantastic, and that's from someone who won't eat duck in the US! John loved it.

We are now back in our hotel, trying to stay up a little bit longer, but I have a feeling the minute I lay down, I'll be out.

Tomorrow is sightseeing and a late flight to Nanning.

This Is It!!!!

We're all packed and ready to go. We'll be leaving early tomorrow morning for the drive to Newark. Our flight leaves at noon, and gets into Beijing Saturday at 2pm (really 2am to John and I, eastern standard time). I don't believe we have anything scheduled Saturday evening, as we'll probably just want to crash!! Sunday will be spent sightseeing in Beijing. We fly to Nanning in Guangxi province later Sunday evening. Renee will be brought to us at our hotel!! sometime Monday morning.

I'll try and see if I can post at the airport, if not the next post will be from Beijing!!

5 Days And Counting

Five more days till we leave for China. As many people who have traveled this road before us have said, after over four years of waiting, it's absolutely surreal that we are truly on our way in only several more days. Add to that, the fact that in eight more days our daughter will be in our arms, well, I have no words, only lot's of emotion.
Friday was my last day of work before I began my family leave. I will miss my work colleagues, especially by partner Karen. She texted me yesterday to see if it has sunk in yet, and honestly it hasn't. It still feels like the weekend to me and that I have to get up early tomorrow for work (even thought tomorrow is Labor Day!). John says it will probably sink in once we're in China. We'll see. I've been working straight with small (week) vacations since I graduated nursing school (I'm not telling how long ago that was ;-) ). I've only taken a two week vacation only twice that I can remember, one was many years ago, and the other was when John and I got married almost seven years ago. Our anniversary is in October, and John knows exactly the day too!! (inside joke that I'll have to explain another time :-)).
So, travel preparations are iin full swing. I'm on my own for two more days. John has to work today and yes tomorrow Labor Day. But then he'll be done too and can join me in the bigger home preparations that we want to do before we leave. I've been busy preparing the lists, packing, reassessing the lists, shopping, then starting over and over again. I think we've got just about everything packed, or gathered to pack, all except our clothes. Yup, suitcases are almost filled and we haven't packed our clothes. Good thing we're not taking an entire wardrobe, we'd never make it with the 44 pound weight limit (China).
I've also been busy getting Renee's room ready. I didn't realize how much we'd accumulated over the last four years. Finding a place for everything has been a challenge.
Oh, I almost forgot, my work colleagues surprised me with a baby shower on Wednesday, and yes Karen I was truly surprised, you and Alison totally pulled it off, I had no idea. It was wonderful, work colleagues from all over the hospital came to wish me well. I truly appreciate it.
Needless to say I have alot of photos to post. I will make it a point to post them before we go.
This week I'll also be making sure that my sister and my nephew know how to post on blogger, should I run into any problems while in China.
We also want to make sure that we are skype ready. Hoping to show off Renee on the webcam while in China!!!

Our "Semi" Surprise Baby Shower

My sister and family "semi" surprised John and I with a baby shower yesterday!! "Semi" has to do with the fact that I knew that it was going to happen, and assisted my sister in choosing the date. With the uncertainties of timing in regards to travel approvals and consulate appointments, my sister wanted to make sure that once the arrangements were made, that John and I would actually be in the country to enjoy the party!!

What I didn't know was where and specifically what time. John was in on the "where" as of Saturday night, so although he put on a good show yesterday afternoon, making believe that "maybe it really wasn't today", ha ha, he was actually the one who drove me to the party!!

What a wonderful time we had!! Spending time with family and friends and celebrating our daughter's imminent arrival.

Oh My Goodness!! I've Got So Much To Do!!!!

No pictures with this blog post!! I'd be too embarassed for anyone to see my home at the moment. I think that "nesting" has completely taken hold! Aside from cleaning, purging, sorting and organizing, I'm also gathering everything we need for our trip. The old adage "it's going to look alot worse before it looks better" comes to mind right now. I have one more week of work, then I will be in prep mode full time!

This week was filled with celebrations, first Wednesday with nursing colleagues of mine who treated me to a wonderful delicious dinner at Ciao Babys and showered me with beautiful gifts. Last night my FCC friends took me to Gino's in Islip and again, delicious food, awesome friendship and more gifts!! I feel so blessed!!!!

We're Leaving On a Jet Plane!!!

Received a phone call yesterday from our travel counsellor. We have flights booked!!

We are leaving on Friday September 11th and will get into Beijing about 2pm on Saturday the 12th.

I am assuming that we will probably do some sight seeing on Sunday the 13th, as we are due to fly out Sunday night

to Nanning. I am also assuming that we will finally meet our daughter, woo hoo, on Monday, September 14th.

I don't know the exact date we travel to Guangzhou, but I do know that our consulate appointment is Wednesday,

September 23rd and that we head back home on Friday, September 25th.

We're still waiting on our official day day to day itinerary which we should receive sometime this week.

Woo Hoo it worked!!! I was able to post the above by sending an email. Hope that means that I'll be able to email posts while in China, should we run into any blogger issues.

So...what's the picture above?? The bed in our back bedroom. Now covered with things that will ultimately be packed and brought to China with us. I'm still working on packing lists, and organizing exactly what's coming with us and where it will be packed among 3 suitcases (2 checked and one carry on) as well as one back pack (John will carry) and one diaper bag (guess who'll carry that :-)?)

We Have Travel Approval!!!!!!

Our agency let us know this morning that our travel approvals came in yesterday!!!
They have requested and already confirmed the provincial part of our trip, and have requested our appointments with the American Consulate. Depending upon the date of our consulate appointment, it looks like we'll be traveling sometime around September 10th. We should know more, including our tentative travel itinerary by early next week!! We're leaving for China in less than 3 weeks. We're gonna meet our daughter in less than 3 weeks. Yipppeeeee!!!
I'm ready to celebrate!!!
The heck with booze, bring on the chocolate LOL!!!

Care Package and Updates

Thanks to Anne with Red Thread China who sent the wonderful care package above to Renee Mei and her nannies. I was able to send a soft, stuffed bear to Renee, candy, chocolate and tea to her nannies as well as a letter from John and I. We sent a box camera as well. It will be thrilling to see the pictures Renee's nannies take of her. In regards to updated info, here is what Anne was able to find out:

Height: 68 cm (26.8 inches or 2 ft 2.8 in)
Weight: 8.5 kg (18.7 pounds) Wow!!
Head Circumference: 42.5 cm (16.7 inches)
Foot: 10 cm (3.9 inches)
Chest Circumference: 48 cm (18.9 inches)
Teeth: 2

Renee has 2 teeth, woo hoo!!!! Cheerios and fruit puffs will on their way my sweet little girl!!!
Unfortunately updated pictures were not available, but that's ok, John and I are looking forward to something even better than pictures. Soon we'll be able to see and hold Renee in person!! Nothing better than that!!!!
Still waiting on travel approval, should arrive any time now.

Guiping

When I first announced our daughter's referral, I noted that she was from the Pinyang Social Welfare Institute (SWI) in Guangxi Province, China. When we received her information from our agency, it clearly said Guiping SWI, not Pinyang. On questioning, Renee Mei is from Guiping and has been at the Guiping SWI since she was found.
In searching the web, I came across the picture above, of her SWI. This is where my baby girl is living now. She may not be aware of it now, but she'll be leaving this place in just a few short weeks, to begin her new life with John and I in the United States. Soon she'll be a "Long Island" girl.

We received our Visa's this week!!! How exciting it is to see the stamp in our passports! Now we continue to wait for travel approval, our American consulate appointment and ultimately our travel itinerary.

Renee, mommy and daddy are coming as soon as we can.
We love you so much already and can't wait till you are in our arms forever!!!!

Happy Birthday To Me!!

With all the excitement of the last week, I almost forgot it was my birthday two days ago!!
You have to admit that I received the ultimate birthday present last week, so anything after that was whipped cream and cherry on my birthday sundae!! It was a quiet, low key celebration with ice cream cake, candles and all the people I love the most, except for one.

Update: We've sent off our acceptance letter, and our Visa applications and we now wait for the CCAA to issue us travel approval. Once we receive travel approval, then our agency can request an appointment for us with the American consulate in China. Once we have that appointment date set, our entire trip can then be planned. This entire process should take about 6 weeks give or take.

Next step, massive packing, shopping and "to do" lists. We're gonna take down the suitcases tonight!!!! I'm so excited!!!

The UPS package arrived at approximately 11 am this morning.
I didn't even hear the truck pull up, I just looked up saw it parked across the street and let out a scream..."John, it's here!".
We ran outside, and impatiently waited for the UPS driver to get out of the truck. Lo and behold, two drivers exited the truck with our package. They crossed over and walked up our walk and John and I were like little kids on Christmas morning! One of the UPS drivers explained that he was training the other. We got two for the price of one today!!!!
John and I asked if we could take their picture as they were the "stork"! They said that this was a first for both of them. They agreed to the picture and were so nice, wishing us congratulations and good luck.
It's a huge packet with alot of information. It reminds me of the first package La Vida sent us almost 4 years ago. That was when the journey began. I was overwhelmed when I first looked at that packet, but was able to digest it bit by bit, and ultimately we finished our dossier which has led us to today. Our daughter and another packet, that is just as intimidating. But I know that we'll again, get everything done to bring our daughter home.

Well, here's some info on Renee Mei:

She now resides at the Social Welfare Institute of Guiping City (not Pingnan?!?)
and has been there since she was found.
As of early May, she was about 14 pounds and 24 1/2 inches tall.
She is a moderate sleeper.
She can hold her head up when she lies on her stomach.
She can roll from her back to her stomach by herself.
She can grasp a toy near her hand.
She can lcoate the direction of a sound or a voice.
She laughs aloud!
She follows you by moving her head from one side to the other.
She knows her name when it is called.
She is active and restless (oh boy!)
She has a ready smile!!!
She is quick in reaction and loves to play with toys.

Most important, she is now our daughter now and forever, and I can't wait to meet her to shower her with all the love that I have for this miracle that the Lord has blessed me with.

Tracking Our Referral Package

We got word yesterday that our referral package would be overnighted to us and arrive today!!!!
Needless to say as soon as I learned the tracking number, I've been tracking it on line.....
It made it to Philadelphia at 9:44 PM last night.....
It left Philadelphia at 10:16 PM last night...
It made it to Louisville, KY (Kentucky??, from Philidelphia??, ok whatever) at 12:02 AM ....
It left Louisville, KY at 4:52 AM....
It made it to Jamica (Queens!!!!!) at 6:41 AM.....
It left Jamaica, NY at 6:59 AM !!!!!!

OK, Jamaica is 45 minutes to an hour west of here....

A Big Decision Made

After much discussion and prayer, John and I made a big decision.
If you'll note above, we are no longer naming our daughter Marissa.
Although after my father passed away, we had decided upon Marissa Renee, before that it was always Renee. Up until Tuesday, everytime we talked about our daughter or prayed about our daughter, we still said "Renee". Her name has been Renee in our hearts, for almost four years. When we found out what name Renee was given at her orphanage, we thought that "Mei" which means beautiful, would be a perfect way to not only honor the memory of my father, but to acknowledge her past and culture.
So, my daughter will be named Renee Mei Sang "G"
My friend Diana who had redesigned my blog for me previously, made the above changes for me last night.
Thank you Diana, everything looks awesome.
We have a new ticker now....now it's days since referral and till we go to China to bring Renee Mei home.
I have some pictures of the baby's room to post as well as some pictures that John took of us while we were receiving the "call". Some are blurred, but the happiness shows through. I'll post them hopefully tomorrow.
Our Fedex package is due to arrive tomorrow as well, here's hoping I can catch a picture of the "stork".

The latest news: it appears that the cut off this month is 3/22. A two day batch. Many are not surprised as 3/21-22 were high volume log in days. I am so upset for my 3/23 and beyond friends. Missing by one day has to be really hard. Last month when the CCAA got to 3/20, we missed it by two days.
The last RQ update is that the 3/22 cutoff is an R4, which means we are almost certain this is the case. The highest rating is an R5. Also, an agency is reporting that they are waiting for a package today. Could they be referrals???
I've communicated with my agency to contact me when our referral is ready, then I'll call John and we'll both head home and call LaVida together. What a drive home that promises to be. Sure hope there's no traffic ;-).
We may hear today....wow, or tomorrow????

Waiting As Patiently As Possible!

John and I had chinese food last night, and oh how I would have loved to find the message above in my fortune cookie!

I have to say, this has been the longest month on record. At least in my mind. I have been so anxious, nervous and tired, oh so tired! Although, I also helped out all week at my church's Vacation Bible School, as well as working a full time job, so I think I've earned my "tired"!!

Based upon RQ's projections, the next batch of referrals should arrive around July 20th. As today is the 11th, that's about nine days from now. Nine days, nine days, nine days. Oh my goodness. We might receive our referral in about 9 days. Not 9 months, 9 weeks, no...9 days. What if we have to wait till August?? Well I'll deal with that if it happens.

It's now July, and there's a very distinct possibility that we will receive Marissa Renee's referral this month.

To say that I've been giddy....stressed.....anxious....excited....try all of the above!!

It's getting harder to concentrate at work. Which is not good as we are trying to put into place plans for when I'm on leave. "ON LEAVE" oh my gosh, that's actually gonna happen! I'm giddy all over again.

I'm trying to stay calm, but based upon Rumor Queen's projection that July referrals may arrive around July 22 (give or take a couple of days), then we are looking at approximately 20 more days till we see our sweet baby's face. 20 DAYS...oh my goodness!!

We've been waiting over 3 years, 3 months and 10 days. Actually, September will be 4 years ago that we started the paper work. So you would think that the next 20 days should be a breeze to get through, right...??? WRONG!

So, I'm continuing to pray for peace and calm while we enter this last leg of our wait. And as John and I have always done since the very beginning, we continue to pray for our little girl. Mommy and daddy love you sweet girl and we look forward to the day when you are put into our arms forever!

39 Month LID Anniversary

Oh boy, in all my excitement over hoping that July will be the month that we receive Marissa Renee's referral, I missed Monday, June 22nd, 2009, which was our 39 month LID anniversary.

39 months ago , (3 years and 3 months) ago, our dossier was logged in with the China Center For Adoption Affairs. So much has happened in that time, both happy and sad.

I've also gotten the opportunity to meet some awesome people on this journey. Friendships have been forged that I know will last a lifetime, not only for us, but for our children.

I am still hoping and praying that we will receive MR's referral before our 40th LID anniversary.

I've been attending a bible study at my church about the book of Ruth, and this past Tuesday night, we discussed patience and waiting on the Lord to work things out. Ruth listened to her mother-in-law Naomi who told her ...."Sit still my daughter, until you know how the matter will turn out;" Ruth 3:18a. Well, that's exactly what I've done over the last 4 years. I am "sitting still" and I know that my Lord is in control of everything.

Oh my.......referrals have arrived and it appears that the LID cut off is 3/20. It's not official yet, but that means......only 2 LID days left till 3/22. And, since the CCAA has assigned 6 LID's per month over the last 2 months, I am cautiously optimistic that...........

I can't express what I'm feeling at the moment. Happiness, anxiety, glee, and relief that this long wait is almost over.

The Rumor's Have Started!

Latest rumors on Rumor Queen state that the CCAA has completed matching and the referral cut off may be either the 20th or 21st. Maybe a slight chance that the 22nd will be included, but the 21st and 22nd were high volume log in days, so I am preparing myself for next month, so as not to be disappointed should we miss the cut off this month. But any way you look at it, the excitement is building. We will see our daughter's face before the summer ends. We will travel to China sooner rather than later.

So much to think about... so much to prepare for...so much to do.....

I can't wait!!!! Bring it on!!!!

Surprise!

Surprise! and Congratulations Kim and Mike!

Yesterday was Kim's surprise baby shower and I am so happy that I could share the day with Kim, Mike and their family and friends. I had such a great time.

We played fun games: I was able to identify strained carrots (baby food) blind folded, yum! Well actually it needed salt :). I didn't win in "baby gift bingo", but it was awesome to see the great gifts Kim and Mike received. Not to mention that the food was absolutely delicious!. It was well worth going off of Weight Watchers for the day :).

Kim and Mike will be leaving for China in less than 2 weeks to bring home beautiful Annie! The new pictures Kim had are so precious, Annie now has "peach fuzz" hair. I'm in love!

Kim, it's been a priviledge to share this journey with you! I look forward not only to our continued friendship, but the friendship that our daughters will share.

Hurry Up and Wait...

That's what our wait feels like right about now. June referrals haven't yet arrived.
There is still a possibility we could be in June's batch, but I am still thinking at least July. But based upon my friend Kim's experience over the last several weeks, it sounds like once we receive our referral for Marissa Renee, things start to roll, and roll quickly. Once travel approval (TA) is received, things go into high gear and travel to China isn't far behind. Kim and Mike received their referral for beautiful Annie,three weeks ago this Thursday and just received travel approval three weeks later on Thursday. They now leave for China in less than two weeks....
Wow, Yippee!!
So...in preparation I've visited Human Resources at work to begin the necessary paperwork for my family leave. I have the form needed to be completed, but can't do anything yet because we haven't received our referral. I need official documentation. So again I said......

Hurry up!!!! and.......wait!!!!

The First Rumor....

Yesterday, on Rumor Queen, the first rumor of June finally surfaced. It is that the CCAA may have completed matching all of March 06. Have to admit that when I first read it, I got anxious and excited. Don't know when the June referral batch will be received, and don't know whether we'll be included. And so we wait....patiently.....well, maybe not that patiently, but as patiently as possible!!

Today was my niece Dana's Holy Confirmation.

As my friend Pat pointed out the other day, it seems that time has flown by in all things in our lives, except for our adoption wait. Here is a picture of my Dana at the beginning of our adoption journey as compared to today. My has she grown into a beautiful young lady. (And hopefully a great babysitter too!!! ;-) ).
Note also how handsome my nephew Anthony has gotten too!!!!! Karen and Anthony, you look awesome too!!!

38 months and counting....

Yesterday was 3 years and 2 months since our dossier was logged in by the CCAA (Chinese Center For Adoption Affairs). Yes, that's a long time, but now I post with a refreshed sense of purpose and excitement. Again, only 8 days remain, till our log in date. I see a new light at the end of that tunnel I've been staring down for so long. A flurry of thoughts enter my mind again, from calling the physician who will review our referral to shopping for things we'll need on the trip (yes I know I have time for that!) to making arrangements at work for my family leave. All these things, and many more have been placed up on a perverbial shelf for a long while.
I've now taken them down and dusted them off.
So, when do I think we'll receive Marissa Renee's referral?? I remain as always caustiously optimistic. I've been in this process too long to set myself up for failure.
Based upon Rumor Queen's latest projections, I could be looking at June, July and I'll include August. Not that I want to, but again I've got to be ready for whatever happens.

What A Ride...again!!

The last six weeks have been the most wild ride yet on our "roller coaster" of a wait. The "swine flu" made us all jumpy, and referrals which usually arrive more at the beginning of the month, were late. Can't tell you the mood swings I've gone through, from happiness to shear depression in one full swoop. Just like doing the loop de loop on on the coaster above.

Since my last post over a week ago, the swine flu has leveled off here in NY. New cases have been reported, but at a slower rate , and thankfully those who have it are recovering.

I was really "riding the roller coaster" of rumors last week. It appears that the CCAA is still giving travel approval but we have not yet received referrals for this month (hopefully this week!).

It's a beautiful day today. Sun is shining, it's warm and breezy. Gotta get going and get outside. Maybe I'll go get some impatients today!!

A Probable Pandemic

Watching the evening news....it looks like the Swine Flu outbreak will become a pandemic. There are many cases in New York, and now Nassau and Suffolk counties are effected. Although the flu is continuing to spread, those who have caught it here in NY are getting better. I'm very thankful for that. I am very sorry for the child in Texas who has passed away from this flu, and my prayers are with his family. The news just reported that this child was from Mexico and came to Texas to visit family. What is Mexico doing to curb this illness?? The World Health Organization has announced that all countries now need to put there pandemic plans into effect.

Rumors today, strongly suggest that the CCAA will halt referrals and TA's for at least 20-30 days. When I first read that on RQ this morning, it knocked the wind out of me. 3+ years and counting waiting for our child and now this. I readily admit I had a small pity party at work this morning. It couldn't have been larger cause I was at work. If I were home, I'm sure I would have given in to my emotions, so maybe it was a good thing that I had to work today.

I can't find fault with China and the CCAA for their decisions. They are protecting their citizens and children. It is the responsible thing to do.

My faith is strong, I still believe that our Lord is in control of this adoption and the length of time that it will take. But....that doesn't mean that I'm happy at the moment. I am trying so hard to remain at peace, but it's hard, really hard.

My thoughts and prayers are with my friend Kim, who was imminently expecting a referral and who now must wait again. I send all the hugs I can. I'm right there with you bud!!!!

A Day At The Vanderbilt

This was our first view of the Vanderbilt Musuem as we walked towards it.

Have you ever seen "Crocodile Dundee II"? Remember the mansion on Long Island where is girl friend was held captive? Remember when the crowd walks into the walkway of the mansion?? It was the Vanderbilt!! I just learned that today!

Today was a beautiful day in New York. Our first day this spring, above 80 degrees. Ahhh, shorts and flip flops, love it!!

We decided to find something to do that would keep us out of doors as much as possible. Well we decided to visit the Vanderbilt Museum and Planetarium.

We so enjoyed walking the grounds. What a beautiful view of the Northport Harbor and the Long Island Sound. It was such a beautifully sunny and clear day that we could see all the way to Connecticut!

We decided to take in the planetarium show about our solar system. The last time I visited a planetarium was a long time ago when I was a young girl. My Dad had taken us to the New York Planetarium in NYC. I remember that after the show, we visited the gift shop and he bought me a book all about the solar system. I remember reading that book over and over for many years to come. I thought of my Dad so much today, I know he was with me.

We also took a tour of the Vanderbilt Mansion. All I can say about the tour is.....wow!! William K. Vanderbilt built the mansion between 1910 and 1936. I'm a history buff and loved the tour. I think John really had a good time too.

What a great day!

37 Month LID Anniversary

Wow, today is our 37 month LID anniversary. We have been logged in with the CCAA for 3 years and one month today. This is not an anniversary for wine and roses, LOL!, but the one thing I know for sure, is that we are one month closer to meeting our daughter and that is what is really worth celebrating.

Just visited RQ, and latest news is that the CCAA has begun matching. Hopefully we'll hear some rumors soon as to what the next cut off date will be.

April Referral Update

Referrals began arriving this past Friday for log in dates, 3/7 and 3/8. Trying to look at things with a positive spin, for although the CCAA referred only 2 days (I think**), 3/7/06 was a big day (lot's of dossiers were logged in that day). Congratulations to all the March families that received their referrals!!

My heart goes out to my good friends Kim and Mike as their referral (their LID is 3/7) was not received on Friday. Their agency did not receive referrals for 3/7, but they were received for 3/8. Hopefully this was an oversight and will be rectified as soon as possible, but I can only imagine the angst and pain my friends are experiencing. John and I are sending our prayers, hugs and positive vibes their way.

Time Marches On and Love Remains

We are marking two sad anniversaries in my family. March 24th was 21 years ago that we lost my dear mother Dolores to lung cancer at the young age of 54.
My sister and I visit her grave often and bring lots of flowers, especially purple ones, as purple was her favorite color.
Although it's been a long time since mom passed, her memory is very much alive for us both.
If not for this wonderful, caring woman, we would not be who we are today.

This Friday, April 10th will be one year since my dear father Martin passed away. It is so hard to fathom that it's been a whole year already. I miss him so much. I still find myself thinking that I have to call him and tell him about this or that, about things that are happening in my life, only to be snapped back to reality. I still talk to him, all the time, but sadly cannot hear his wonderful voice in return. How I miss his soothing voice.

Today my sister and I visited our parents graves and brought them both colorful bouquets of flowers. We looked up to the beautiful blue sky and again let them know how much they are missed and of course loved.

Happy 36 Month "3 Year" LID Anniversary

Note the date above and the date in the header at the top of my blog and you'll notice that today is our "3 Year" log in date anniversary. Wow, now this is an anniversary that we never thought or expected to celebrate. Are we actually celebrating?? Well yes, we'll be having dinner with my sister, brother-in-law and my nephew and niece. Cornbeef and cabbage, a belated St. Patty's Day dinner where we can also celebrate this date as well.
So... how much more of a wait do we have? Ever hear of the saying "so close, yet so far...."?, well that sort of sums it up. There are 16 LID's left till it's our turn.
We are hopeful that we will receive "MR's" referral very soon, very soon, very soon....my mantra very soon, very soon!!!!!

Log In Date Update

Just a quick post to update where we are in regards to our log in date. As of March 2nd of this month, the Chinese Center For Adoption Affairs (CCAA) has completed matching referrals for log in dates up to March 6th, 2006 . As our log in date is March 22nd, 2006, there are now only 16 LID's left till it's our turn to receive our referral. How much longer?? That depends upon how long it takes for the CCAA to match referrals for those 16 days. If they match 4 days a month, then we are looking at a referral in June, if they do more than 4 than we could see Marissa Renee's face sooner. If they do less than 3 days.... well we'll deal with that as it comes.

A Difficult Time

I have tried to post many times, but have found it too difficult. The last several weeks have been so hard both emotionally and physically. My work load at my job multiplied in a very short period time, with project deadlines looming. I take my job very personally, and often times find myself lying awake at night, unable to sleep, worrying about one thing or another.
During this time, I also found out that a dear, childhood friend was very ill. She ultimately lost her valiant battle with cancer and passed away last week. I have been so sad, trying to come to terms with many things. Losing my friend so young (she was only 48 and with young children) is a tragedy in it's self. My heart goes out to my friend's husband and family, my thoughts and prayers are with them constantly.
I'm also dealing with guilt. I had not seen my friend for almost a year. How I wish that I had called and been in contact with her. I did not know she was ill again, I should have known, a good friend would have known.
A lesson to be learned....if you have a family member or friend that you have not called, written, or had contact with in a while, get in contact with them. Let them know how much they mean to you, let them know how much you love them and care for them. Don't let so much time pass, that one day you just run out of time.

John checked the mail this morning and......our I-171H extension has arrived!!
Phewww! I was getting nervous, as we were fingerprinted over two weeks ago, and
our current I-171H was due to expire in the next 3 weeks.
The I-171H is essentially the first step of the approval given to us by the USCIS (US Immigration) to bring Marissa Renee home from China. We complete the process at the American Embassy in Guangzhou, China.

The latest rumors are that the next batch of referrals will get to March 6th, 2006. That would leave 16 more days, till our LID. Watching and waiting!

Next week we attend our travel meeting with La Vida, looking forward to it!!!!

Our Travel Hand Book Has Arrived!!!

I'm cautiously starting to get excited. John and I will finally after over three years of waiting, be attending La Vida's travel meeting in March. At that meeting we will learn all we need to know about preparing for and traveling to China to bring Marissa Renee home. Along with attending this very important meeting, La Vida has sent us our travel hand book, as well as other important information we'll need. Just getting to this point is surreal. When you wait as long as we have, and you finally see some light at the end of the tunnel, it's just mind boggling. That's really the only way I can describe it.
I'm still again cautiously optimistic that we'll receive Marissa's referral within the next 3 months or so, with travel to China this summer.

And as always, all praise and glory goes to our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, who without Him, none of this would be possible. We continue to wait in His perfect timing for our daughter Marissa Renee.

Fingerprinted again!!

Today John and I were fingerprinted by the USCIS for the third time! Fingerprints are only valid for 15 months at a time. Ours actually expired this past July, but we knew that we would have to renew the immigration approval (our I-171H) we need to bring Marissa Renee home to the USA, again, so it made sense to wait till we were in the renewal process. Our fingerprinting today is hopefully the last step in renewing that approval (hopefully for the last time!). The fingerprinting process is not how you may think, no black ink involved (yippee!), it's all computerized. They spray your hands with water and you place your hands on a glass panel that reads your print. It takes all of about 5 minutes. I thought it was really cool!

We're Hitching Flights to China!!!....Not!!!

John, I and my friends from the FCCLI "waiting group" went to brunch this morning at the 56th Fighter Group. We had a blast, the ladies sat on one side of the table, while the guys did their thing on the other end!! 56th Fighter Group is a restaurant right off of a small airport in Farmingdale, Long Island. The brunch items available were vast and delicious: salads, seafood, pasta, breakfast foods such as omelets, pancakes, waffles, lunch items such as ribs, chicken, steak, and I haven't even gotten to the desserts!! Everything was delicious. I paced myself and was able to try a little of everything. I also enjoyed a Mimosa!! which I had been thinking about for several days :)
After brunch we wanted to take pictures by the planes in the back of the restaurant.
We asked the guys to gather first...and the result is the picture where the guys are all faced forward toward the planes with their backs to us...we ladies laughed so hard that we cried!! The guys turned around, not understanding what we found so funny, and then we got the face front picture!!! Then it was the ladies turn!!
I have to say how much I value the friendships of these fine ladies...Pat, Kim, and Lori. We are sharing this journey of adventure together while we wait for our referrals. Lori has a unique view as she is waiting for her second child from China, and offers understanding and advice that is priceless.

Ladybugs In My New Office!

I work in a huge hospital that is undergoing new construction and major renovations. My colleague and I are going to be moving to a new office very soon. We will be sharing the office with two other people as well. One of these colleagues saw me today (who is fully aware of the adoption and the significance of ladybugs!), and proceeded to tell me that our office is filled with ladybugs!!
Think about this for a moment, this office is on the 18th floor, as well as the fact that it's the middle of winter and the average temperature lately has been about 29 degrees. Wow!! Can't wait to see them for myself!!
ChinaAdoptionForecast.com updated their website today, and based upon our LID of 3/22/06, they are predicting that we are still on target for a May referral. If that's the case, we'll be traveling to China in July. What a birthday present that will be!

34 Months And Counting....

Yesterday, January 22, 2009 was our 34 month LID anniversary. 34 months ago the CCAA logged in our adoption dossier. Two more months and we'll reach our three year anniversary.
Wow, that's one anniversary I never thought we'd celebrate.

Yesterday, some of the members of our Marching Panda yahoo group began receiving their referrals. I am so happy for them, congratulations!!!! To the Marching Panda's that missed the cut off this month, just remember, next month is your turn!!!

A Let Down

Latest rumors say this months's batch of referrals may be pretty small.
Maybe including only 2 days worth.... maybe only up to March 2, 06.
I admit it's a let down after riding the high of a rumor that appeared to include our LID.
But as always, we trust in our Lord's perfect timing. It is all in His capable hands.

To my dear daughter, my dear baby girl, where ever you may be, know that you are and have been in my heart for a very long time. I long for the day when you are placed in my arms forever. Until that day comes, I am patiently waiting for you. Dear Marissa Renee, mommy loves you, now and forever.

The Rumor's Have Begun!

I'm an avid reader of the Rumor Queen. Her site is really the only place to find out information about what is happening in the China adoption world. I think that I really would have lost my mind over the last 3 1/2 years if I didn't have her site to go to. With that being said, Rumor Queen (RQ) is very clear concerning the rumors she reports. She rates them R1 -R5 depending upon how much information backs the rumor up. R1 is a weak rumor, where by an R5 is just about fact. Once a rumor becomes an R5, you can bet it will be a reality within a short period of time.
RQ reported last week an R1 that said there was a possiblity that the CCAA may get much farther into March 06' when they next send out the next batch of referrals. Maybe as far as March 23rd 06!! Well, that would mean that with our LID of March 22, 06, that we would be included!!! I have to be honest, when I read that, my jaw dropped to the floor! I then started to giggle profusely and all the thoughts and dreams that I had put on a shelf for the last 2 years, came roaring back into my mind! I have to be honest, it felt good, really good to think that we may be that close. I tempered my enthusiasm knowing this is an R1 rumor and could very possibly be false. Oh but what a wonderful couple of hours I had thinking what if?..........

Oh Boy Am I Behind!!

I should have blogged several times already, I am so behind.
First I hope that everyone had a very merry and blessed Christmas and I wish you all a very happy New Year!!!! I hope and pray that 2009 will be a year filled with peace, love and joy for everyone.
Well it's official.....the CCAA has completed February of 2006!!! On December 29th, the latest batch of referrals was received which covered LID's Feb 24th through to the 28th! That means there are now only 22 log in dates till we receive Marissa Renee's referral. I think I am finally letting the realization in, that next year at this time, I will finally be a mother. Wow, mind boggling after this long wait. 33 months and counting!

Referral Update

Last week the CCAA referred children for those with log in dates of February 18th through February 23th. That's 6 more days closer to Marissa Renee's (MR) referral. I've changed the counter on the right to reflect that their are now 27 LID's left till we see our daughter's face.
We are under 30 days!! There are now less than a months worth of LID's before us. I can't believe it. According to China Adoption Forecast.com if China continues at the pace they have been, we should receive MR's referral in May. That's 5 months from now. That's finally under 6 months!!!!!!! March 06 is a large month of referrals, but after waiting 32+ months I've got to hang on the thought that we are so close!!
Someone asked me recently how John and I can handle such as long wait. Our faith is what has gotten us this far, and is what will see us through. I totally trust in our Lords perfect timing.
What also came to mind was a scene from one of my most favorite movies, The Princess Bride, when Miracle Max is asked to hurry up is miracle. His reply was that you can't hurry a miracle, cause if you do you get a "rotten miracle" :-). Well, we are not rushing our miracle, and we believe she will be perfect!!

So This Is Christmas!

John and I finally finished decorating the Christmas tree yesterday. We started last Sunday, putting on the lights and garland, but didn't get to put on all the ornaments till yesterday. We did the garland a bit different this year. We got the idea from a tree we saw decorated at Sears and decided to try it. We used sheer gold ribbon going in one direction, then a more sparkly gold garland going in the opposite direction. Let me know if you like it.
I think I'm finally getting into the Christmas spirit. I've been listening to as much Christmas music as I can to get into the "mood". Josh Groban's "Noel" has to be my most favorite Christmas CD.
Still Christmas shopping, and haven't even started to wrap yet :-(, but most important, to remember that "Jesus is the reason for the season!!"

Well it appears that the CCAA only referred two days worth of referrals this month.
No one really understands why. This actually pushes my estimate of when we'll receive MR's referral back a month. Although I'm disappointed, I still must trust in my Lord and Saviour's perfect timing. So again, we wait.

Weekend Catch Up

I wish that I had the time to blog everyday. My job is extremely tiring both physically and emotionally. I get home from work with an ambitious list of "to do's", but I'm usually lucky if I can accomplish even one thing on the list. (Let's see how I do once MR is home!!!)
With that being said, I love my weekends! They go quick, but I try to catch up on all the things I can't do during the week. I'm going to try to blog at least once every weekend, and if I get a chance to blog during the week, well, then that's serendipity!!

I still have lots of pictures to post, from Bermuda, our anniversary, autumn flowers, etc.
I'll catch up eventually ;-)

Well, the 31 above signifies that on October 22 we reached our 31 month LID anniversary. We have been "logged in" in China now for 31 months. We await with "baited breath" to see how many LID's the CCAA will be able to match next. We should begin to hear about the next "batch" of referrals within the next week or so. No real rumors yet on Rumor Queen.
If things proceed as they have, with China averaging to match approximately 6 days worth of LID's per month, we are on track to receive our referral in about 5-6 months. We would then travel to China in the next 7-8 months. Oh my gosh!! To be able to actually type this with an end in site is an awesome feeling.

Let Me Post About The Cruise Before Winter Sets In!

During the last week of August John and I took a 5 night Royal Caribbean cruise to Bermuda. We were blessed with calm seas and beautiful weather. The name of the ship is the "Explorer of the Seas". We left from Port Liberty in Bayonnne, New Jersey, which is only about an hours drive from home.

On the way out of the Bayonne harbor, we sailed right under the Verrazano bridge (the bridge that connects Brooklyn with Staten Island). The Captain informed us that from the very top of the ship to the bottom of the bridge is a total clearance of only 7 feet. Yes, I said 7 feet! I'm actually glad he provided this information after the fact! (But it was still really cool!)

The cruise left port on a Saturday afternoon and we arrived in Bermuda early Monday morning. We went to the very front of the ship to watch as the ship arrived. It was amazing how the crew so easily brought the ship in to port. More to come.....

What A Ride!!!!!!!

The last three years have been a constant rollercoaster ride. Every month waiting to see how many LID's the CCAA would be able to complete. Some months I felt as if I was soaring high when it seemed that things were moving more quickly, where as many times I felt as if I was heading straight down that first steep slope of the rollercoast when things kept slowing down further and further with no end in sight.
I've included a count down in the right sidebar, which shows how many LID's (Log In Dates) left till we receive our referral. The CCAA had, as of last week, referred up to 2/15/06 which leaves 35 LID's till our referral. Well....I checked the Rumor Queen last night (as I do frequently), only to see that it appears that families with the LID of 2/16/06 have been notified that there referral is on the way. Wow !!! That caught me by complete surprise. I don't believe in the 3 years I've been following referrals since starting the adoption journey that I've seen something like this happen, with referrals arriving again, just a week later. I also don't want to speculate as to a reason why. I'm just going to change the LID count down to 34, send my congratulation out to all those who are receiving their referral today, and just make sure that my safety belt is securely fastened as this rollercoaster ride continues.

Autumn Moon Picnic and Walk-a-thon

Yesterday was the annual FCC-LI Autumn Moon Family Picnic at Belmont Lake State Park. In addition to the picnic, we walked in the First Annual FCCLI Walk-a-Thon around Belmont Lake. The monies raised will be sent to charities that assist China's orphans as well as all those effected by the earthquake that hit Sichuan province.
Originally, the festivities were due to be held on Saturday, but the weather did not oblige us, as it rained all day. Although the weather continued to look threatening on Sunday, the rain held off till later in the evening. And aside from the ground being a bit "moist and muddy", we had a great time.
I've noticed that I'm more of a "scenery" photo taker, as the majority of the pictures above are the views around Belmont Lake. But I did take one of "Maya and Maya", as I walked with their Mom's "Barbara and Tina". I took the pictures with my new IPhone 3G. Boy I love my new "toy". I can take pretty good pictures if I do say so myself, as well as listen to music, etc. But, I digress. The walk around the lake was beautiful, and Autumn arrived when I wasn't looking, hence the beginning falling leaves as well as the beautiful fall colors just beginning to show in the trees.

Happy First Day of Autumn!

At exactly 11:44am, Summer officially ended and Autumn officially arrived.
Although I had to work today, yesterday John and I visited a favorite Nursery and bought Mums and some ornamental grass plants. I replanted the backyard planters with Mums and ornamental peppers. The peppers are all different colors: purple, orange, yellow and green. I'll take some pictures and post soon, they look awesome. Our impatients still look good, so we'll wait to plant cabbages in their place in a couple of weeks. Our Montalk Daisies are almost ready to bloom.
Only mishap of the day yesterday was that while at the nursery, I was stung by a yellow jacket. Ouch, did that sting, just about all day. Today I feel as if I have a mosquitoe bit.

Happy 30 Month LID Anniversary!

Today is 30 months (or two and a half years) that we have been logged in with the CCAA. We started our "paper chase" just after Labor Day 2005. Our dossier was mailed to China on March 6, 2005, and was officially logged in to the CCAA on March 22, 2006. Wow, how can time seem to go so slowly, but at the same time just slip away. We are hopeful that we are finally in the home stretch.

One Step At A Time

I thought this might be a good time to give an update as to where we are in our wait to adopt Marissa Renee. We are "waiting in line" for China to get to our LID (Log In Date), the date our adoption application was officially logged in by the Chinese Center For Adoption Affairs (CCAA).

As noted above, our LID is 3/22/06. As of the beginning of this month, the CCAA had completed assigning children up to and including the LID 2/09/06. This means there are 41 LID's left till the CCAA gets to our date. How long will that take?? Well I'm hoping that I can finally say that we are in the home stretch and we expect to receive our referral in about 6 months. How do I know? Well I don't know for sure, but I base it upon information I can gather from the websites of others who keep close track of what China has done in the past.

One website I frequent monthly is China Adoption Forecast. This site attempts to forecast when we may receive MR's referral based upon their statistical analysis of what China has done in the past.

The website that really keeps me going is that of the Rumor Queen. I visit her site daily, multiple times a day, to keep abreast of what's going on in the Chinese adoption world. News can travel slowly from our agencies, so this is a place of support and sharing. I probably would have gone crazy a while ago if I hadn't found this site.

Our immigration approval will expire at the end of March 09. That means we will probably have to renew it again, not to mention we will have to be refingerprinted, and have our home study updated as well.

Last but not least, I named this post "One Step At A Time", the new release by Jordin Sparks. The minute I heard it, I fell in love with it. It is my self proclaimed "theme song". I am taking this wait one step and one day at a time. I continue to trust in my Lord's perfect timing. And as the song says ...." It'll happen when it's supposed to happen". Listen and enjoy!!

Haven't "blogged" in a long time. I feel as if I'm driving through a long
underground tunnel, and am starting to see the light ahead.
I still miss my Dad so much sometimes that I can't breath.
I don't know about other people, but I find writing my thoughts down to be
very difficult. That's another reason I haven't blogged in a while.
Well.... John and I will be leaving in about 2 hours for our first away, away vacation in almost 6 years (does are honeymoon count??).
We will be taking a cruise to Bermuda!!
Not taking the computer with us, but will take lots of pictures and blog about it when we return.
I'm also planning a major blog overhaul. I'm determined to master blogging.

I Love You Dad!!!!!!

I haven't blogged in a while for several reasons.
The most important reason, is that my dear and beloved father, Martin,
passed away about two and a half weeks ago.
The last 9 months since my dad became ill, have been filled with pain, anxiety and worry. They have also been filled with many blessings.
I miss my dear dad more than words could ever say, and I am so proud not only of the
life he lived and the legacy he has left behind , but that I was blessed to be his daughter.
Although I am at peace knowing he is with our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, I am full of grief over losing him. That grief is eased somewhat by the many wonderful memories that comfort me and my family.

Can't believe it's February already. On one side of the fence, I'm glad, because that means that winter is almost over (depending upon which ground hog you listen to :-) ), on the other side, it just feels as time is speeding by.

Rumors are abound that another batch of referrals are imminent. Also that the this batch will include December 27th and may even finish off 2005!! That would be so great!! If the CCAA makes it to the 27th, that leaves 85 log in dates to March 22, which is our LID.

Happy New Year!!

Last Wednesday, (the day after Christmas), John and I took the LIRR into Manhattan to see the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree. I usually see the tree on TV every morning as I watch the Today Show while I get ready for work. The view of tree on TV is awesome, it's from above and that makes the tree look huge. Funny thing is that when I was standing in front of the tree, my thoughts were that although it was beautiful, that it wasn't as large as it looks on TV. It was still beautiful, and as soon as I download the pictures from my phone, I'll post them here.

We walked to Rockefeller Center from Penn Station, which is a nice walk! We exited Penn Station at 34th St. and 7th Avenue, right near Macy's Herald Square (where you see the parade on TV!). We actually stood right in front of Macy's where all the Broadway show dance numbers happen. Wish I would have thought to get a picture of that :-(.

We walked along 7th Avenue right through Times Square. If you enlarge the picture above you should be able to make out where the New Years Ball is placed, and which made it's historic yearly trek last night!!

Last night my family came over to celebrate the New Year. We had a great time! I was a bit under the weather as I came down with a cold on Sunday, but it was a night to remember!! About 9PM, LIPA (Long Island Power Authority, our electric company), turned off the power for about 45 minutes to cut down a tree in our neighbors backyard, as it was cracked and precariously ready to take down power lines. Only problem was, that we had no advance notice and suddenly found ourselves in the dark!!
Good thing was, that I keep rechargeable flashlights all over the house, so we sat around talking in the semidarkness.

My Dad is still in rehabilitation, but making strides everyday. I call him "Our Christmas Miracle" as he as surpassed all we had thought he'd be able to do. I'll post new pictures of him and give a further update really soon.

Lastly, it looks as if the CCAA has referred another batch for January, but not sure of the cut off date. We are March 22, 2006 (LID) and we are hoping that this will be our year to bring Renee home!!!!

We thank our Lord for the many blessings He has bestowed on our family this year, and continue to trust in His perfect timing.

Still Here....And Still Waiting

Haven't blogged for some time.
My plan is to resume full-force after the New Year.
My father is in a Sub-Acute Rehab Facility and happily surprising us every day with what he can do!
We are in month 20 of our wait for Renee, with probably months to go, but we're in it for the long haul.

I'm Back!

Haven't posted for a while. It's been so long, that mid summer has now turned to almost fall. The air is crisp and cool, it feels wonderful.

Here's an update on my father:
He's in what is called "acute rehab", which means he's in a nursing facility getting very agressive rehabilitation. Physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy every day. Last week, my dad took his first steps since this all happened. I was there to see it and cried!!! He can't talk yet, but is mouthing words.
Dad has a ways to go, but we are so thankful to our Lord for bring him this far.

Things have been rough over the last month and a half. Waiting for our referral in an every slowing process has not helped matters. But again, we continue to trust in our Lord for all our needs.

A Very Difficult Post

I've tried several times to post, but couldn't.
My Dad Martin, had a severe heart attack on Tuesday that stopped his heart.
I got the call on Tuesday while at work. Dad was just sitting in a chair
talking and then just slumped. Colleen called 911 and the EMS found him
in cardiac arrest. They with the help of the Lord were able to revive him
and get his heart beating again. He was rushed to St. Agnus hospital in Baltimore.
There they found one of his main arteries blocked and put in a stent.
He's been in intensive care since. The doctors have said that his heart is beating well, but could not predict how long he went without oxygen to his brain, so the first 72 hours would be critical to see if there was any damage.
Dad opened his eyes a little yesterday when I leaned over him and told him that I loved him, but that's about it.
We are praying so hard. My Dad is 81 years old and just a couple of months ago walked 6 miles for a marathon to support the Seeing Eye Dogs. So this is such a shock and my heart is just so full of sorrow and pain.
We are looking to our Lord for peace and comfort, but hope for prayers for my Dad to "wake up" from his sleep.
So, please, please say a prayer for my Dad Martin that he will wake up and come back to us.

First Things First, Happy Birthday To Me!!!!!!!!!!

I've been taking a lot of pictures lately, and have tons of things to blog about, so I'll be catching the blog up as soon as I can, but....first things first!!! Today is my birthday!!!! Yippeeeee!!

It's a bit cloudy today, with a good chance for thunderstorms. Would have loved to be at the beach, but this way I"ll get my housework done without guilt. Yes, even though it's my birthday, I'll be doing housework!!

John has to work today :-(, he tried to get the day off, but someone else was on vacation.

So...he was able to take yesterday off, which worked out perfectly!! I took the day off too!!

We started the day early at the beach, it was beautiful, John fished, I sat and read. I fished too!!

John caught a small fluke and threw it back. All in all it was a wonderful first part of the day.

For my birthday, John got us tickets to last nights Mets vs Nationals game at Shea stadium,

so when we got home we showered and changed, and got to Shea Stadium early. The Mets are building a new stadium "Citi Stadium" which will be ready in 2009. It's being constructed right next door to Shea, and construction has taken up a lot of the parking spaces, so we got to the stadium early and got a great spot.

Well, the Mets lost :-(, 6 to 2. That's' OK, we had a blast!!!!
Tonight we'll go to dinner, hopefully for Sushi!! Yum

Sorry for not posting over the last 2 months. Multitude of reasons.
Nothing bad though. Time does fly though, just not fast enough till we
"fly" to China. Thanks to those who have kept a watchful eye. I'll catch you up asap!!
